Veronica "Ronnie" Nora Gioia Matamoras, PA
Mrs. Veronica "Ronnie" Nora Gioia, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at her home in Matamoras, PA, surrounded by her loving family. She was 78.
Ronnie was born on October 7, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Dock Washington Wheeler and the late Ann Grillo Wheeler. She was a graduate of Hunter College in New York, where she earned her Master's Degree.
Throughout her career, Ronnie wore many hats. She spent years as an activities therapist at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and worked as a beautician in Manhattan for 30 years. However, her greatest joy came from her nine years of service with the Port Jervis Police Department as both the Matron and the School Crossing Guard, roles she cherished deeply.
An active member of her community, Ronnie was the Chaplain for the Roosa Fleming VFW Post #161 Auxiliary in Port Jervis, NY. She was also a devout parishioner of the Good Shepherd Church in Milford, PA, where she often participated in community lunches. Ronnie volunteered for 10 years at St. Joseph's Place in Bon Secours Community Hospital, where she offered her time and compassion.
Known for her vibrant and animated personality, Ronnie was a woman who embraced life with zest. She was the life of any gathering, bringing joy to all around her. Ronnie enjoyed participating in activities with the Port Jervis and Deerpark Seniors, especially her weekly Bingo games.
Ronnie leaves behind her loving daughter, Jennifer Langdon of Port Jervis, NY; her dear sister, Patricia Rennish and her husband Joseph; her cherished grandchildren, Devin, Timothy, Serenity, and Elias; and her great-grandchildren, Devin Xander and Layla Aribella. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Shawn.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the funeral home with Rev. William Stewart officiating.
Cremation will take place at MacLennan Hall Crematorium in Milford, PA.
