Virginia "Jinny" Bartels, age 97, of Martinsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at The Laurels of Hillsboro, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 22, 1928, in Newtown, Ohio, Jinny was the daughter of the late John and Summor (Werth) Seig. A bright and determined student, she graduated at the top of her class from Terrace Park High School in 1946. On March 1, 1947, she married the love of her life, Russell Bartels. In 1956, the couple moved from Newtown to Martinsville, where they built a life together on the family farm. Jinny was a proud farmers wife for 58 years, and there was truly nothing she couldnt do. From driving tractors to fixing equipment, she was both the heart and the hands behind the scenes. Her work ethic and strength were unmatched, and her presence on the farm was a force of nature. She was a devoted member of the Allensburg Church of Christ and the Clark Township Homemakers Club. Jinny had a deep love for the outdoors, whether she was tending her garden or woodworking in what she fondly called her "playhouse." Her creativity, resilience, and boundless energy inspired all who knew her. Jinny will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the example she set. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Laurels of Hillsboro for the compassionate and attentive care they provided for Jinny. Jinny is survived by her two children, Denise (Dennis) West of Lynchburg and Daniel (Kelly) Bartels of Liberty Township, Ohio; five grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) West, Nathan (Jenna) West, Evan West, Alexandra (Scott Buchhalter) Bartels, and Andrew (Jillian) Bartels; five great grandchildren, Logan, Collin, Cameron, Caraline, and Hayden; close friend, Marlyn Young of Martinsville, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Bartels on May 1, 2005; two sisters, Mary (Jim) Harris, Jean (Eugene) Kirry, and her close friend, Elma Jean Glass. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 6, 2025, at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. following visitation on Tuesday May 6th at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Martinsville IOOF Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jinnys name to the Allensburg Church of Christ, 7105 Abernathy Road, Lynchburg, OH 45142.
