Virginia Lee "Jennie" Glenn, age 94, of Norton, Ohio, crossed over into heaven on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Ohio's Hospice Life Care in Wooster to be with her beloved husband, daughter and infant son who were waiting for her. She was surrounded by her loving family in presence and in spirit.
She was born on June 18, 1930 in Cedar Grove, West Virginia to Basil Lee and Thelma V. (King) Myers and was raised by her grandparents, Earl and Helen Myers of Riverside, West Virginia.
Jennie married Earl A. Glenn on August 11, 1947 in East Bank, West Virginia. They then moved to the Akron area in January, 1951, before moving to Norton in 1971. Earl went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2018.
She was a devoted homemaker. She loved doing anything and everything she could for her family. After the unexpected loss of their daughter, Sherry, at the age of 48, Virginia decided to go to nursing school and received her LPN Degree.
She started her nursing career at Barberton Citizens Hospital and then worked for Sumner Nursing Home in Akron and at Concordia at Sumner in Copley. She then retired after 28 years of devoted service in 2008.
Sewing was a passion of hers. She loved making clothes, making dolls for children, sewing curtains for family and friends and even tried upholstering two favorite chairs for her husband, Earl. During the pandemic, when there was a shortage of face masks, she made over 300 face masks and donated them to local emergency squads and local hospitals. She also altered clothing and loved making quilts for her family and friends. Jennie also enjoyed floral arranging for her church every Sunday for many years.
Family was her life and she and Earl loved vacationing with them for many years at Holden Beach, North Carolina.
She will be remembered for loving the Lord, wearing her hats, striking up good conversations with friends as well as strangers, making the best fried chicken and for being the best mom and Momma that any family could ask for.
She was a member of the Sullivan Nazarene Church in Sullivan Ohio and loved her church family. She and her husband, Earl, were previous members of the former Wadsworth Church of the Nazarene for over 31 years.
She is survived by her children, Earl "Art" (Tylynda) Glenn of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Samuel A. (Christine) Glenn of Wooster, Ohio and Jean Petry of Quentin, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Andrew "Drew" (Cheryl) Glenn of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Adam Glenn of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jordan Glenn of Wooster, Ohio, Emilee Glenn of Wooster and her Fiancé, Parker Tallman of Hudson, Ohio, and Chicago "Cago" Glenn of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; 7 great-grandchildren; Noah, Amber, Addison, Natalie, Alex, Calvin and Sam; a sister, Shirley (Rev. Jack) Gregory of Glasgow, West Virginia; a special niece, Jan Koot of Dallas, Oregon; other numerous nieces, nephews and numerous loving church friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, Earl who went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2018, she is preceded in death by an infant son, David Wayne Glenn, her daughter, Sherry Lynn Glenn; and her sister, Barbara Hudnall.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 29, 2024, 1:00 pm at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster with Rev. Dr. Howard S. Russell officiating followed by interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Akron.
Visitation for family and friends will be 2 hours prior (11:00 am - 1:00 pm) to services on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either: Sullivan Nazarene Church, 495 US-224, Sullivan, Ohio 44880 or New Destiny Treatment Center, 6694 Taylor Rd., Clinton, Ohio 44216.
