On November 28th, God reached out His tender hand and gently took Virginia "Ruth" Mahala affectionately known as "Granny Ruth" at the age of 76. Ruth's life was shaped by love, kindness, and a heart full of care for everyone she met. She was a caregiver through and through, finding true joy in giving all of herself to her family, friends, and neighbors.
Ruth's greatest pride and joy in life was being a grandmother. There was nothing that brought her more happiness than being "Granny Ruth" to her grandkids. She loved them more than words could ever say, and it showed in everything she did. She poured her heart into them, sharing her wisdom, her laughter, and her boundless love, shaping them into the people they are today. The memories they carry of her will stay with them forever.
Alongside her role as a devoted grandmother, Ruth spent her days caring for those around her. Whether family, friends, or neighbors, Ruth had a gift for making everyone feel like they were cared for. She was always ready with a listening ear or a helping hand, never expecting anything in return. It was enough for her to simply love and give.
Ruth lived a simple life; one filled with contentment and peace. She was happiest with a strong cup of black coffee in hand, spending quiet afternoons on the farm, and reading her Bible. Fancy things never meant much to her, what mattered most was being with her family, especially around the table for those famous Sunday dinners. No matter who you were, Ruth always welcomed you to her table, and no one ever left hungry. She made sure you ate, and you always left with food to take home. Those meals were more than just food; they were moments filled with love, laughter, and stories that will be shared for years to come. Ruth's laughter was infectious, and her kind heart made everyone around her feel right at home.
She will always be remembered for her selflessness, her joyful spirit, and her love that knew no bounds. Ruth left a mark on everyone she met, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all those she touched.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Mahala is survived by: her husband, James Edward Mahala; two sons, Edward Mahala (Penny), of Creston and Andrew Mahala (Crystal), of Zionsville; a brother, Ray Pierce; two sisters, Sandra Huffman (Roger), of Millers Creek and Deane Childress, of Lansing; four grandchildren, Dale Mahala, Jordan Mahala, Jessica Mahala and Luke Mahala; two great-grandchildren, Sam Ward and Grace Ward; several nieces and nephew also survive.
A huge thank you to Medi Home Hospice for the support and special care they gave to Granny Ruth.
