Virigina Mendelsohn (nee Perito) passed away in her home on October 24, 2024.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Virginia graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School. She met Neil at the Avenue V Park, where they played squash, and they married in 1973. Virginia worked for the Selective Service System until she became pregnant with her first son, Jason. Virginia moved to Staten Island to raise her family and had a second son, Michael. When the boys were old enough for school, Virginia went back to work as a Hospital Care Investigator, retiring in 2002. She then moved to Matawan, NJ to be close to her first grandchild, Austin.
Before she married, Virginia traveled extensively with her parents. Her favorite destination was Japan. She enjoyed cooking, making sure everyone had a special dinner on their birthday, but baking was her real passion. Everyone looked forward to her Lemon Bars, Teatime Tasties, Biscuits and Shortbread cookies that she made for the holidays. When she wasn't in the kitchen, Virigina was knitting or crocheting blankets for her sons, daughter in laws and her 7 grandchildren. She loved playing cards and mahjong, which introduced her to Janet who became family.
Virginia leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years Neil, brother-in-law Jack, her adoring sons and their wives; Jason and Carmela, Michael and Danielle and her 7 grandchildren; Austin, Anthony, Emily, Molly, Alexandra, Saylor and Raelyn.
Virginia was met in heaven by her parents Salvatore and Theresa, and all of her beloved pets.
Anyone who knew Virigina, knows her love of all animals. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any animal rescue of your choice in her honor.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Services Inc., 111 Main Street, Matawan, New Jersey.

Germaine & Mike Kunitsky

November 3, 2024

Both Germaine & Myself had always enjoyed the times when Virginia and Neil would come down to visit and we would go antiquing and also they would visit for our After the Holidays Christmas Party. There were so many laughs and good times too numerous to list.
May she rest in peace and no more pain or suffering. She'll teach the angels how to play squash but they have to hit the ball to her!!!!
You'll be missed Love Germaine & Mike
