W. Kenneth Price, 83, of Tunkhannock, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born on February 12, 1941, the son of Kenneth H. Price (d. November 21, 1994) and Mary Lily Fountain (d. December 18, 1977), Ken dedicated his life to family and service to others.
Ken was a graduate of the Elk Lake Class of 1959. After graduating high school, Ken attended Lafayette College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1963. Ken started working for Westinghouse that same year, where he worked until 1972. While at Westinghouse, he pursued a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, earning that honor in 1970 from Drexel University. In 1972, Ken returned home to help run the family business, Ken-Mar Home Furnishings. He was a well-known and highly respected business owner in our small town, always offering a welcoming smile as patrons visited the furniture store, that he and his twin brother, Brooks, operated until 2017.
Ken was a devoted husband to his wife of 61 years, Alice (Brink) Price. Together, they have two children, David Price (Susan) of Monroe, CT and Karen Karavitch (Albert "Ed") of Tunkhannock.
Ken loved living in a small town and was involved in many organizations. He was humbled to give back however he could. He was a board member of both the Grange National Bank and the Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen, was a member of the Endless Mountain Barbershop Chorus, sang with the Wyoming Co. Chorale, was Treasurer of the Overfield Cemetery, and was a member of both the Meshoppen Men's Club and the Lake Carey Cottage Association. Ken enjoyed bowling, where he was in a league at Shadowbrook, and could also be found on the golf course. Ken was an avid UCONN women's basketball fan and cheered on his beloved Penn State Football team.
Ken's family was the cornerstone of his life. In addition to his wife, Alice, and their children, Ken is survived by his grandchildren: Meghan Price of Farmington, CT, Kenneth H. Price of North Kingstown, RI, James Burgess of Meshoppen, and Melissa Walker of Wilmington, NC, and his great-grandchild, Austin Burgess, of Tunkhannock. Ken also leaves behind his siblings, Charles F. Price (Marjorie) and his twin brother S. Brooks Price, all of Tunkhannock, his sisters/brothers-in-law, Clara Burke (William II) of Meshoppen, Tessie Weigand (John) of Tunkhannock, Greta Hyland (James) of Summerfield, FL, and F. Alton Brink of Orangeville, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his mother/father-in-law Arthur and Grace Brink, his sisters-in-law Wanda Price and Mollie Johnson, and his beloved dogs Pepper and Gidget.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 SR 6, Meshoppen with Pastor Richard Darling officiating. Interment will follow at the Overfield Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen, 51 Warren Street, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
