Walter P. Blumke, age 101, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully Thursday, October 24, 2024. He was born on September 21, 1923, in Fond du Lac, the son of Paul and Helena (Segebart) Blumke. On June 5, 1948, he married Jane Gilbertson, in Fond du Lac, and they enjoyed 55 years together before her passing on May 4, 2003. After graduating high school, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served from 1942 – 1946 during WWII. He served on the Piranha submarine during its whole commission as a First Class Motor Machinist. After his service, Walter worked at several businesses before working as a refrigeration engineer at West’s Ice and Cold Storage Company in Fond du Lac. After retiring, Walter designed and built Oakgreen – a Par 3 and Executive Course with Jane, his son and his wife, Dave and Cheryl. He was a member of Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran in Fond du Lac. He enjoyed gardening, boating with family, as well as building and fixing things. After marriage, he built their first house. Walter and Jane complemented each other with their talents and whatever they did, it was meticulously crafted and detailed. Though a quiet individual, he was well respected for his work ethic and kindness. In 2011, Walter went on the Old Glory Honor Flight.
He is survived by a son, David (Cheryl) Blumke of Fond du Lac; daughter, Barb Bellmer of Berlin; four grandchildren, Paul, Joe, Jennifer, and Jaime; three great-grandchildren, Halle, Emily, and Ben; and brother, Kenneth Blumke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helena; wife, Jane; and three siblings, Hazel Dille, Ray Blumke, and Bernice Michler.
