Walter Daniel Grund, 83, of Stuart Fl passed away peacefully on Monday March 3, 2025. Born on April 25, 1941, In Brooklyn New York, To Veronica and Walter Grund, Walter was the oldest of 4 children. Walter and his siblings grew up in New Hyde Park, New York.
After graduation Walter took a job at Food Fair where he met and married Angelina Benenati. He then joined the Suffolk county Police department where he proudly served for over 30 years. Walter has always had a passion for travel and camping with the family and would spend many summers at Gilbert Lake leaving everlasting memories for his children.
Walter was a loving husband, father to his 3 sons, grandfather to his 8 grandchildren, great-grandfather to his 3 great grandchildren who brought him so much joy in his later years. He was blessed with the ability to make friends wherever he went and more importantly, many became friends for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him
Every Summer Walter would host GRUND FAMILY summer trips. Whether it was Disney, Hershey Pennsylvania or Hatteras on the beach at "Beach Babies" his greatest joy was to have the family together.
Throughout his life, Walter selflessly donated time, resources and substantial financial contributions to organizations focused on education, health, and poverty alleviation. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place will never be forgotten.
Walter was married to the love of his life and together they built a beautiful family filled with love and laughter. Walter was survived by 2 of his sons, Michael, married to Michael Ann, Daniel, married to Elizabeth and his Daughter in Law Ann Marie, Married to Thomas. In addition, he leaves behind his eight grandchildren: Brittney, Chase ( married to Athena), Justin, Kayla, Ariana, Peyton, Travis and Nathan and his great grandchildren Kaia, Tatum and Callan as well as Maureen Harvey with whom Walter had a deep lasting connection with.
Walter was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Grund, as well as his brother, Richard Grund, Brother in Law John Canning as well as his former Spouses Angelina Grund and Terri Grund.
He leaves behind his devoted siblings, Marilyn Canning, husband John Canning and David Grund and his wife Linda Grund and Camille Grund wife of Richard Grund with whom he shared many happy memories over the years.
Walter had a long and distinguished career as a police officer, retiring after many years of service. In his retirement, Walter found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid camper and RV enthusiast, often spending his time traveling and exploring new places. He also loved reading, cooking, and taking long walks every morning, which became part of his daily routine.
Walter's warm heart, dedication to his family, and zest for life left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Walter's life will be held on March 13, 2025 at Aycock Funeral Home, Jensen Beach FL 34957 with visitation from 3:00-7:00. Walters final resting place will be in Center Moriches NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation in Honor of his sons Michael Grund and Thomas Grund or Hospice who was instrumental in keeping Walter comfortable and peaceful in his final days.
Walter will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever remain with his family, friends, and all who loved him.
A celebration of life for Walter will be held Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 950 NE Jensen Beach Blvd, Jensen Beach, FL 34957.
