Walter H Seckel

Walter Seckel, age 93, of Galion passed away Sunday March 30, 2025 at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehab.
Born May 1, 1931 in Ft. Wayne, IN, he was the son of the late Wallace and Inez (Cochran) Seckel. He married Betty Cass on April 18, 1953 and she preceded him in death.
He moved to Galion in 1933 and was a 1950 graduate of Galion High School. He began working at the former Galion Iron Works then enlisted in the Army in 1951 serving in France during the Korean Conflict, until 1953. He then moved back to Galion and continued his work at the Galion Iron Works in assembly, working until retirement in 1993. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Scarborough Post 243 and the Galion Elks Lodge 1191. His hobbies included woodworking, flying RC model airplanes, traveling and camping.
He is survived by his children: Richard (Cheri) Seckel and Carol (Doug) Heiser, four grandchildren: Eric Seckel, Brian (Jenna) Seckel, Scott (Laramie) Heiser and Kelly (Josh) Thayer, eight great grandchildren: Grace, Dylan and Emily Thayer, Carter and Blaine Seckel, Kylah Bodkin, Tyson O'Brien, and Hayden and Hudson Heiser and his sister-in-law Treva Seckel.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Joel Seckel and sisters Geraldine (Dick) Logan, Nancy Jamerson and Marjorie Seckel
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Thursday April 10, 2025 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Friday April 11, 2025 with Pastor Tanyce Addison officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice.
