Walter Westfall passed away on August 20, 2025 at the age of 89.

He is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 54 years; his son, Dana Westfall (Nicole Van Haverbeke); and daughters Christina Westfall (Chanh Phan) and Leanna Westfall (Thomas Egge). He was Grandpa to: Ethan and Zach Phan, Alex and Adeline Westfall, and Theo and Jonas Egge. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Westfall (Bonnie) and nephews and nieces.

Walter was the son of Donald and Freda Westfall. He grew up and attended school in Brighton. Later, he received his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Yale and his law degree from Cornell. After serving in the Army, he joined his father's law practice. Walt practiced law in downtown Rochester for over 50 years.

Walt loved being outdoors. He especially liked walking on nature trails, visiting botanical gardens and studying the stars. He enjoyed puttering and planting in his backyard in Pittsford. Indoors, classical music was always playing and a good book was always nearby.

It was Walt's wish not to have a funeral service. Instead, his whole family gathered while he was alive and alert to share their memories with him.

Contributions may be made to the Finger Lakes Land Trust or The Parkinson's Foundation.
