Walter G. Yoder, 83, of McAlisterville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at his residence.
Born on April 19, 1942 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is a son of the late Walter F. and Kathryn E. (Grabbe) Yoder. On May 4, 1968, he married his surviving wife, Judith A. (Stine) Yoder, whom he was blessed to share over 56 years of marriage before his passing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Deanna Stong of McAlisterville and Crystal Wray and her husband Joseph C. Wray, Jr. of Lewistown; three grandchildren, Timothy Abbott, Elizabeth Carvell, and Tanner Stong; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Abbott and Carson Abbott; six siblings, Donald Yoder of Lewistown, Ardeth Henry of McClure, Barbara Knepp and her husband Calvin of Richfield, Harry "Bill" Yoder and his wife Linda of Newport, Deborah McCloskey and her husband Larry of Loysville, KY, and Katherine Fether and her husband Eric of Altoona; one brother in law, Charles Weiand of Lewistown; and many generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son in law, Robert Stong; one niece, Celeste McCloskey; two sisters, Joan Weiand and Cheryl Yoder; one sister in law, Dora Yoder; and one brother in law, Gerald "Butch" Henry.
Mr. Yoder was a 1961 graduate of Chief Logan High School in Lewistown and honorably served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Walter was employed and retired from American Hickory in Lewistown.
In earlier life, he began his walk with Christ at Mount Rock Evangelical Methodist Church; after which led him to attending Christian Missionary Alliance Churches. In recent years, he attended Beavertown God's Missionary Church. Throughout the years, he served God in various capacities such as Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher for over 40 years, was a church Elder, and ministered to various nursing homes and their residents. He also enjoyed studying scripture and preparing Sunday School lessons.
A Celebration of Walter's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Beavertown God's Missionary Church, 1693 Creek Road, Middleburg with Pastor Nick Rine and Pastor Solomon Shaffer officating. Interment will follow at Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
A viewing will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Beavertown God's Missionary Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Yoder's memory can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 5000 Wissahickon Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19144 or to the Beavertown God's Missionary Church, 1693 Creek Road, Middleburg, PA 17842.
