Funeral services celebrating the life of Wandra Sue Jordan Avant, 81, of West Monroe, Louisiana, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 20, 2025, at McClendon Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Stewart and Dr. James Gardner officiating. Interment will follow immediately after at New Chapel Hill Baptist Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
The visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Wandra Sue was born April 18, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away December 15, 2025, in West Monroe, Louisiana.
A graduate of Winnfield High School, Sue enrolled in Louisiana Tech to pursue a degree in elementary education. She was a school teacher for over 33 years, beginning her teaching career in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1967 and retiring from Ouachita Parish School Board in the late 2000s. She taught first and second grade students at several schools including Riser, Drew, and Boley.
After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Sue will be remembered most for her love for the Lord, passion for teaching, and love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sheriff Sanford Jordan and Clara Jordan; sister, Nellie Springfield; husband, Joseph “Joe” Avant, and her daughter, Danelle Avant.
Those left to love and cherish her memory are her son, David Avant and wife, Deidre, granddaughters, Rusti Avant Murphy (Zachary), Kari Beth Saterfiel (Dylan), and Maggie Avant; and one great-grandson, Ransom David Murphy.
The pallbearers will be John “Pistol” Carter, Michael Bryant, Glenn Springfield, Cranford Lee Jordan, Zachary Murphy, and Dylan Saterfiel. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Avant, Dan Gilliland, and Dan Littleton.
The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to The Guest House of West Monroe and Elara Hospice for the care they gave to Memaw during this time.
