It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Warren Lee Lewis, 67, who left us peacefully on September 27, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa, after a courageous battle with Cancer. Born on May 30, 1957, to Joe and Wilma Catherine (Sams) Lewis, Warren was a son, father, and a proud veteran.
Warren's journey through life was marked by unwavering commitment and service. After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, embodying the values of bravery and honor. Following his time in service, Warren became a Journeyman/Pressman for the Des Moines Register & Tribune and the Denver Post after which he became a long-time taxicab driver in Des Moines, where he touched many lives with his kindness and keen sense of humor. Warren was also an avid umpire for Saydel little league. Warren proudly volunteered at the VA for more than 25,000 hours! He also helped as a volunteer firefighter in Delaware township.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his siblings: Lyle Lewis, Randy Lewis, Bobbie Lewis, Sharon Walker, and Barb Ewing.
Warren is survived by his children: Michael (Shannantay) Lewis, Jessica (Jeremy) Johnson, Christopher Lewis, Brian Mahedy, Kyle Lewis, and Fannie (Andrew) Fach, also 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; siblings: Donald (Tammy) Lewis and Larry Lewis.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so during the visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 4, at Iles Grandview Park Chapel. A memorial service to honor Warren's life and legacy will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, also at Iles Grandview Park Chapel, followed by interment at the serene Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to veteran's hospital in Des Moines.
