Warren Thomas O'Connell, age 73, of San Antonio, TX passed away on May 8th. Born February 14,
1950 at The Nix in San Antonio, TX, he ended up in a Brady Bunch-style family with 7 brothers
and sisters he loved dearly. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio and
Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University) in San Marcos. Along the
way he made some life-long friends and so many memories. Before attending college, he enlisted in
the Air National Guard serving 3 years and 9months and receiving an honorable discharge.
He will be remembered for his smile, his baby blue eyes, his jokes, his stories, and ability to see the
good in everything and anyone. He was an amazing son, father, brother, uncle, PopO, and friend.
He was always there for someone if they needed help or if they just needed to talk. Always
worrying about others before himself. He was truly a one of a kind; he was the Big O.
He loved doing so many things whether it was running restaurants or honky tonks, or being at the
Ranch O or the MO' Ranch. He loved live music, horses, and rodeos. But he found something he
loved more his kids. He became a dad first to his daughter, Alex, and then his son, Neal, a few
years later. Being with his family meant spending time at the ranch riding horses, playing in the
mud, or exploring the barn. It also meant the Pear Tree Inn, Uncle Forest & Aunt Charity's house,
or annual trips to the Rodeo. His love grew even more when he became a grandfather! He is the
proud PopO to two gorgeous granddaughters, Karlee (7) and Mia (6), who have him wrapped
around their little fingers!
Warren is survived by his children, Alexandra Josephine Tobin Day (Robert) and Neal Thomas
O'Connell; his grandchildren, Karlee Ann Grace O'Connell and Mia Josephine Day; his mother,
Betty Howell O'Connell; his siblings and their spouses, Barbie Sumner O'Connell, Robert Lynn Howell
(Ruan Reast), Charity Yarborough Cox (Wally), Wayne O'Connell, Arch Adams, CeCelia Stone O'Connell,
and former sister in-law Dee Werner O'Connell; his nieces and nephews, Christopher O'Connell,
Patricia O'Connell, Patrick Yarborough, Mollie Yarborough Steele (Andrew),
Jacqueline O'Connell, Mackenzie O'Connell, Bingham Adams Shelton (Tyler), Leah
Howell, Quinn Howell (Darla), and many loving great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Williston John O'Connell and Mollie Winters O'Connell.
His siblings, John Patrick O'Connell, Scott O'Connell, Paul Howell, and Susan Howell Adams; and his
nephew, Jordan O'Connell.
A celebration of life is planned for June 10. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a
