On Thursday September 19, 2024, Wesley A. Davis, age 59, was called home to the Lord. He passed away peacefully in his little house in the woods surrounded by his family. He was born on August 31, 1965, in Fostoria, Ohio to Alice (Myles) Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Veronica Carol (Mayo), of 31 years; daughter, Sydney (Eamonn Mayo) Davis, Yelm, WA; son, Seth Davis of Weston; mother, Alice (Ken Cairns) Davis of Monclova; brother, Jeff (Nora) Davis of Jerry City; sister-in-law, Paula Davis of Liberty Center; brothers-in-law, Bob (Lisa) Mayo of Versailles, Ohio, Randy (Tracy) Mayo of Greenville, Ohio, Gene (Denise) Mayo of Rossburg, Ohio; 11 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Davis.
After graduating from Eastwood High School, Wes traveled out west and worked on a ranch breaking horses. He returned to Bowling Green where he met his lovely wife, Carol. They were married in October of 1992 in Celina, Ohio.
Wes attended Owens Police Academy and worked for the Darke County Sheriff's Office for three years. Then in 2001, he joined the Wood County Sheriff's Office where he dedicated 23 years to his career. While at the sheriff's office, he worked in the positions of Corrections Deputy in the jail, Deputy Sheriff road patrol, DARE Officer and School Resource Officer for Elmwood Schools where he was known as Double D. He finished his law enforcement career in the Civil Division. Wes held his job as a Sheriff's Deputy with the utmost pride.
Wes's greatest joys were spending time with his family and friends. He was often found sitting around a campfire sharing stories, beef jerky, and cajun peanuts or out on the water fishing. Wes was an avid hunter, decent fisherman and great outdoorsman. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his nieces and nephews over the years.
Wes has touched many lives through his career and personal life. His sense of humor and ability to play a little joke on you while keeping a straight face will be truly missed. Wes was a man of faith and attended St Patrick's Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, Ohio.
Friends will be received from 4-8 PM on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Nazareth Hall (21211 W. River Rd Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522), where a Prayer Service will begin at 7:45 PM. A Rite of Christian Burial Mass will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church (14010 S. River Rd Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522) with Father Francis Mariadas officiating along with Pastor Charlie Winter. Graveside burial services will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery near Grand Rapids. Memorial donations in his honor may be made to Bridge Hospice, Northwest 190 EMS of Grand Rapids, or St. Patrick's Catholic Church. All arrangements have been entrusted to Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne, Ohio. Online condolences may be sent to Wes's family at www.barndtfuneralhome.org.
