Wholley Geister, a cherished family man, decorated veteran, and respected community member, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 17, 2024, in West Branch, Michigan. Born on December 2, 1925, in Wayne County, Michigan, to the late Bud & Elizabeth (Szemredy) Geister, Wholley's life was a testament to his friendly nature, kindness, and courage.
Wholley proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, an experience that shaped his strong character and instilled in him a sense of duty and resilience. After his honorable discharge, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a mechanic with General Motors, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring. His work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on his colleagues and the industry.
Beyond his professional life, Wholley was a man of many passions. He loved the freedom of the open road, often seen riding his Harley Davidson, with the wind in his hair and a smile on his face. Winter months would find him snowmobiling through the crisp Michigan landscape, embracing the thrill and the chill of the season. At home, he was a competitive Monopoly player, always ready for a good-natured challenge with his daughter.
He proudly built two family homes with his own hands one in Virginia and the other Alger, he was so very proud of this accomplishment. Family reunions were a highlight for Wholley, as he deeply valued the time spent with his loved ones. He was the heart of every gathering, sharing stories, laughter, and creating memories that his family will treasure forever. His presence was a source of joy and comfort, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
Wholley's legacy is carried on by his devoted daughter, Sheila (Herb) Collver, and his daughter-in-law, Jeanne Geister, a brother Bob Geister, and his sisters Marion Belding and Shirley Whisman. His spirit will live on through his five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, who will continue to look up to him as a role model and inspiration.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mae (Smith) Geister, his parents, Bud and Elizabeth Geister, son, Russ Geister, brother, Clarence Geister, sister, Ethel Rector, Maxine Lawrence, and Caroline Townsend.
Wholley's life was one of connection and service, touching the lives of many with his warmth and generosity. His friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community, and his kindness extended to all he met. His courage, both in times of war and peace, set an example for his family, teaching them the value of bravery and perseverance.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 1 pm from the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home-Standish Chaple with Pastor Victor Scheffler presiding with burial in Alger Cemetery with full military funeral honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, from 10 am until time of service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank you to Wholley's niece and nephew Linda (Rick) and Dave (Debbie) as well as the Villa of West Branch and Compassus Hospice for the compassionate care given to Wholley.
