Mr. William E. "Billy" Barrows

William (Billy) E. Barrows, age 77 of Chelmsford, MA, formerly of Lowell, passed away on June 30, 2025. Born in Lowell on March 18, 1948, he was the son of the late Edward and Helen (Linnehan) Barrows. Billy was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Maguire) Barrows.
Billy attended Sacred Heart School and went on to graduate High School from Keith Academy.
Billy proceeded to Lowell Technological Institute and from there worked various jobs including the Boston and Maine Railroad and Lefty's. In 1974, Billy found his passion as a Lowell Firefighter stationed at the Branch Street Firehouse where he worked all but three months of his career. During his career Billy received the Medal of Valor which was presented to him by Governor Romney.
Billy loved Horse Racing and for 30 plus years he went to Saratoga Race Course in New York with friends to enjoy the races. If he wasn't at the Track, he was at Mt. Pleasant Golf Club enjoying a day of golf. Billy was a good man who went out of his way for family and friends. Billy was the oldest in the family and looked up to by all. Billy will be greatly missed but we know that he is in a better place.
Billy is survived by his siblings, Patricia Barrows and her partner Anne Parente, Edward and Judy Barrows, Mary and Angelo Karabatsos, Robert and Donna Barrows.
Billy is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Patrick and Jen Barrows, Sean and Emma Barrows, Meaghan Barrows, Brian Barrows, Kevin Barrows, Alexandra Karabatsos, Hannah Karabatsos, and Dorothy's son James McAuliffe.
Sadly, Billy is predeceased by his wife Dorothy and nephew James Barrows.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 Moore Street, Lowell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Church, 12 Sixth Street, Lowell. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Billy's memory may be made to the Lowell Retired Firefighters Scholarship Fund, 15 Brunswick Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
