William Robert Duncanson, known affectionately as Bill to his loved ones and friends, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024, at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held.
Born on May 9, 1947, in Durand, Michigan, Bill's 77 years of life were marked by a profound sense of love, commitment to family, and a deep appreciation for nature.
Bill's journey began as the only son of James and Marjorie (Graham) Duncanson. A proud graduate of Byron High School, Class of 1965, Bill's academic journey continued at Hillsdale College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1969. During his college years, he was not only a dedicated student, but also an enthusiastic basketball player and a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
After graduation, he began his career with Chrysler Corporation in Kansas City, Missouri, then later returned to Michigan where he continued his career. Bill's professional life was marked by his tenure as Senior Manager of Sales Financing for DaimlerChrysler, where he dedicated many years before his well-earned retirement.
His life took a turn for the extraordinary when, on a blind date, he met the love of his life, Patricia. Their connection was undeniable, and just three months later, they were engaged. The couple's unique love story continued as they exchanged vows on December 6, 1985, in Bay City, in a memorable ceremony officiated by a blind judge and his seeing-eye dog. Bill and Pat's marriage was a testament to their devotion, spanning 38 years filled with joy, laughter, and shared challenges.
Bill's love for the outdoors was a defining aspect of his life. An avid outdoorsman, he was passionate about hunting and fishing, particularly fly fishing. He was an active member of various sporting and conservation groups. These organizations reflected his deep commitment to conserving land and waterways, and protecting wildlife. Together with Pat, he invested countless hours in planting trees and cleaning up rivers, leaving a tangible, positive impact on the environment.
Bill's pride and joy also extended to his canine companions. He shared his home and love of the outdoors with five Labrador Retrievers over the years.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Pat; his son, Jeffrey A. Roelant; his daughter, Carolyn (Christopher Pass) Duncanson; his grandchildren, Christopher James and Catherine Claire Duncanson; and his sister, Mary Ellen (Jeff) Seling. He was preceded in death by his parents, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and wisdom.
Those who knew Bill would describe him as selfless, gentle, and wise. His presence brought a sense of calm and understanding to any situation, and his guidance was sought by many. Bill's influence and the values he lived by will continue to resonate with all who had the fortune to cross his path.
