William P. Eberlein

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of William P. "Bill" Eberlein, age 84, of Erie, who passed away at the Erie Veterans Affairs Hospice Unit on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Born in Erie on February 23, 1939, he was a son of the late William "John" and Margaret (Prizinsky) Eberlein.
Bill was a graduate of Cathedral Prep where he excelled in sports, especially football. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at General Electric for 35 years before retirement.
Bill was long-time parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church and a devout Catholic attending daily mass for many years. Bill enjoyed golf, bowling including several 300 games, was an avid Notre Dame football fan, a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and a Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially playing cards with his beloved granddaughters.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Ann (Eberlein) McKenrick; a brother, Deacon John Eberlein; and sister-in-law, Shirley Eberlein.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Brooks) Eberlein; his two children, Willaim P. Eberlein, Jr., wife Dodie, and Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Sutkowski, husband Walter; two granddaughters, Samantha, and Alexandra Sutkowski; siblings, Thomas Eberlein, wife Lucille, Sally Kolbas, husband Michael, Joan Peterson, husband Deacon Jerry Peterson, and Diane Anke, husband Jack.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd., on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and are invited there to a service Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m. Burial in Erie Cemetery. Bill will be missed.
