William Flaugher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - North Port on Dec. 9, 2021.
William Lawrence Flaugher Sr., age 92, passed away on Nov. 29, 2021 in North Port, Florida. He was born April 8, 1929 to Emery and Dorothy (McDaniel) Flaugher in Walkerton, Ind.
After high school, Bill proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Sicily during the Korean War. When Bill came home, he became a father of three children, a farmer with his dad and a factory worker at Bendix in South Bend, Ind.
He spent his 'free' time as a member of the American Legion 189 of Walkerton, where he was a member for over 70 years. He was a commander, district commander, Sgt. Of Arms and held many other offices. He also wrote a regular news article for the legion paper.
Bill was also active in 40/8, VFW, and AmVets of Indiana.
During the summer, Bill could be found out in his huge garden. Which a weed didn't dare grow in. This garden bug he passed on not only to his children, but his grandchildren as well. Also, during the summer, the grandchildren enjoyed being pulled in the little wagon behind his garden tractor.
Bill was an amazing cook, which he learned from his mother. He cooked for his family, friends, and for the veteran organizations that he belonged to.
When he wasn't running to meetings or cooking, he relaxed at home with his wife Alice of 47 years. They did crossword puzzles together, watched game shows and movies together. Bill was a fan of westerns. He always said that 'if a movie had a horse in it, it can't be bad.'
In his later years, he traded the cold snowy winters of Indiana for the warmth of Florida with Alice by his side.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents: Emery and Dorothy Flaugher, his brother Robert Flaugher, sister-in-law Cheryl Flaugher, and son-in-law Victor Chiszar, and his darling wife Alice.
Surviving Bill is his youngest brother Richard (Mary) Flaugher of Huntsville, Alabama, also his three children, Cynthia Chiszar of South Bend, Indiana, William Lawrence Jr. (Donna) Flaugher of Walkerton, Indiana, Linda (Lesley) Coburn of Hawk Point, Missouri.
The grandkids he enjoyed: Amanda (Chuck) Porter, William (Lauren) Chiszar, Lauren Chiszar all of South Bend, Indiana, Stephenie (Andrew) Hickle, of Portage, Indiana, Alisha Coburn of Hawk Point, Missouri, Tamelina Coburn of Lynchburg, Virginia, Samantha (Joshua) Martin of Washington, Missouri.
Great grandkids: William 'Liam' Chiszar of South Bend, Indiana, Alexus and Andrew 'Drew' Hickle of Portage, Indiana, and Elijah and Isaak Martin of Washington, Missouri,
Great great grandkids: Amirah Porter of South Bend, Indiana, and Leland Cooper of Portage, Indiana.

This is a huge loss of a wonderful man. I will always have the best of memories of Bill and my dad sharing time together of many decades. He was a true patriot of the greatest generation. A great man. Condolences to his family.
