A Time to Die: William Edward Newsome, Jr. aka "Hometown," 76, of Suffolk, Virginia passed away on December 8, 2022 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He truly had a fighting spirit up until the end of his earthly life.
A Time to Be Born: Bill was born in Suffolk, Virginia on September 21, 1946 to the late Adeline and William Edward Newsome, Sr.
A Time to Love: Bill met Irene Cynthia Bowers in 1971 and they married in 1974. Their union produced two children: William Edmund and Joy Marie. Bill was a proud dad and had great love for his children and their accomplishments and activities.
A Time to Plant: Bill enjoyed life! He attended Suffolk Public Schools and graduated from the historic Booker T. Washington High School. Bill went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Norfolk State University and continued his graduate education at Virginia State University. He worked, served, and retired as an educator of Norfolk Public Schools. He spent 30+ years in public education and had a fierce commitment to shaping the minds of young people. He was a lifelong learner who believed in the power of education to open doors and enhance one's life.
Bill was a hard worker who found joy in his work as an educator and as a retiree (of over 20 years). He was a faithful member of East End Baptist Church for 65 years as he served on various committees (an avid participant of Vacation Bible School serving delicious foods, & most recently the Back Pack ministry). Above all, he loved the Lord, his children, the Philadelphia Eagles, and influencing the future generations as an educator. He equally loved each day of retirement and the many opportunities it presented him. As a man of leisure, he enjoyed music, art, botany, reading, cooking, traveling, home improvement projects, and studying history (especially family history). There was never a dull moment with Bill Newsome as he continually kept things interesting.
A Time to Rejoice: Bill leaves to cherish his memory a daughter and son, Joy Newsome Jacob (Clifton 'Chuck') of Nashua, New Hampshire and Rev. William Edmund Newsome (Shantelice) of Newport, Rhode Island. Finally, he will be cherished by his many cousins, family, co-workers, students, and friends.
