William Alvin Oglesby II, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away on July 14, 2025, in Newburgh, Indiana. Born on September 13, 1961, in Evansville, Indiana, Billy was a man whose presence was felt deeply by all who knew him. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and faith.
Bill dedicated his life to the craft of ironworking, following in the footsteps of his father, William Oglesby. He spent his career with Union Local 103, where he was known for his unwavering commitment to his colleagues and the projects they undertook together. Bill's brief tenure in Florida with Local 397 was marked by the same dedication and camaraderie that defined his many years of service in Indiana.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was a devoted family man. He is survived by his ex-wife, Rebecca Drew, and his two daughters, Sopheia and Samantha Oglesby. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Elijah, Malachai, and one soon to be born, who will grow up hearing stories of their grandfather's strength and kindness. Though his parents, William and Shirley Rae Oglesby, and his sister, Victoria Oglesby, predeceased him, the memories they shared will continue to be cherished by all who knew the Oglesby family.
Bill's life was one of unwavering faith and generosity. He was a god-fearing man who lived his beliefs through his actions, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His impact on his community was immeasurable, and his absence will be deeply felt by those who were fortunate enough to experience his kindness and support.
As we say goodbye to Bill, we celebrate a life well-lived. His was a journey marked by love, commitment, and a deep sense of purpose. William Oglesby II will be remembered not only for the work he accomplished with his hands but also for the countless hearts he touched with his spirit. His was a life that truly made a difference, and his legacy will endure in the lives of his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family will be holding a memorial service for his friends and family on July 19, 2025. This will be held at the Ironworkers Local #103 located at 5313 Old Boonville, IN 47715 at 12:30pm.
