William F. "Bill" Zimmer, age 85, of Frankenmuth, Michigan, passed away peacefully late Friday evening at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Bill was born on December 16, 1938 on the farm settled by his Great-Grandfather in 1865, to the late Vernon M. and Edna E. (Gall) Zimmer,
Bill proudly served his country with the US Army Reserves. He was a devoted member of the Frankenmuth United Methodist Church and actively contributed to his community as an active member of the Jaycees, a 4-H Leader in Tuscola County, a member of the Columbia Township Planning Board, and President of the Junior Chamber Zoning Board and Commission. Bill was a founding member of the ACW Ambulance service in Unionville and acted as a first responder for many years.
A hardworking man, Bill, along with his father and brother, owned and operated his family farming business in Unionville until 1980. He then worked for Agrico, Kinde Co-op, and the Cooperative Elevator Company of Pigeon until his retirement. He poured his heart and soul into his work. His commitment to helping others was evident through his extensive volunteer efforts and his readiness to assist those in need.
On January 9, 1981, Bill married, Virginia "Ginger" Wolff, who survives him. Bill's legacy lives on through his four children: Debra Zimmer of Unionville, Scott (Dawn) Zimmer of Frankenmuth, Step-daughters Connie Bryll of Carlsbad, CA and Kelley (Alex Chingman) Wagner of Hudsonville, MI. He had four grandchildren, Brennan (Claire) Zimmer of Frankenmuth, Colton Zimmer of Royal Oak, Katie (Derek) Fitzgerald of Zeeland, MI, and Jeffrey Koreleski of St. Petersburg, FL; two great-grandchildren, Jude Zimmer and Louisa Fitzgerald. He is also survived by his sister, Carol DeSimpleare, and his brother, Thomas "Tom" (Sally) Zimmer both of Unionville and sister-in-law Sandy (Ron) Bond of Kawkawlin.
He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Jack DeSimpelare, John Wolff III and James Wolff.
Bill's life was a testament to hard work, community service, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Per Bill's wish, cremation will take place. No services are being planned at this time. Final arrangements were entrusted to Ambrose Funeral Home, 1200 Garfield Ave., Bay City, MI 48708.
