Wilma Geneva Bumpus was born on May 3, 1930 in Lowryville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Chester and Ethel Austin Thornton.
She was united in marriage to Levada Bumpus, who preceded his wife in death on May 6, 1968.
Wilma worked as a cook at Cherry's Truck Stop. She enjoyed working in her yard and her favorite flower was the petunia. She also enjoyed cooking various dishes. Wilma was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennnessee.
Wilma Geneva Bumpus departed this life on January 1, 2025 in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 29 days.
She is survived by her daughters, Jocondia Mae Pannell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Vera Dean Porter of Savannah, Tennessee, Irish Faye Moore of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Robbin Denise Bumpus of Savannah, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Joyce Glenn; sisters, Clorene Johnson, Rosie White, Myrtle Winters, Annie Hamilton, and Mable Sevier; brothers, Robert Lee Thornton, Vernon Thornton, and Gus Frank Thornton; 3 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
