Winfred Simeroth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lescher Millsap Funeral Service, LLC - Muskogee on Apr. 8, 2025.
Winfred Carl Simeroth of Coweta, formally of Warner, went to his final resting place with the Lord on Friday, April 4th 2025 in Warner, Oklahoma at the age of 92. Carl was born in Purcell, Oklahoma on September 8th 1932 to Laura Isabelle "Belle" Snow and Andrew Joseph "Trusty" Simeroth.
He was raised in the Lexington/Purcell area of Oklahoma until the age of 8 when the family moved to Porum, Oklahoma. His father was always a farmer and Carl learned his love of farming from watching and working beside his father. After he graduated from high school at Porum in 1950, he then graduated from Connors State College in Warner and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955. He met the love of his life and married Mary Catherine "Katie" French in Denver, Colorado on January 4th 1958. After leaving the Air Force, he and Katie moved to Stillwater where he attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1960. Their first daughter, Genevieve Rose, was born in 1959. After graduating he moved his small family to Cherokee, Oklahoma where he worked for the Shoebe's Cattle Feedlot Company. There another daughter, Nancy Grace was born in 1960, his son, Raymond Neal was born in 1963, and third daughter, Della Elaine, born in 1965, joined the growing family. In 1965 Carl moved his family back to the Stillwater area when he went to work at Oklahoma State University as a licensed electrician.
Life continued to change for Carl and his family as he left OSU to begin a career as a Farm Manager at Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma. While they lived in Warner a fourth daughter, Judy Kay, born in 1972, was added to the family. In 1976 after the death of his father, Carl decided to leave Oklahoma for the first time (outside of the military) for the state of Missouri. He became the Farm Manager of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri arriving there on January 1st 1977. After several years of hard winters and snow that never seemed to melt until after April he decided that Oklahoma was where he belonged. Carl returned to the Warner area to become the ranch manager for the Last Hurrah Ranch owned by Robert and Carole Thompson. He worked there until he reached retirement age. However, retirement did not seem to agree with him and he decided to resume his love for community and wanting to mentor the children by going to work for the Warner School system. In 2013 he finally decided to retire and help his son and daughter-in-law at RSM Farm Supply "acting as Store Manager" as he wasn't content to sit at home. In 2024 his health declined and he went to live with his daughter Nancy in Missouri while she got things organized to return with him to Oklahoma as "long as it was before the snow flew". By September Carl and Nancy had returned to Oklahoma to live in a Senior Living Complex in Coweta and returned to RSM Farm Supply most days to continue to greet customers.
Carl loved his family including grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also known as Papaw to most people under the age of 40 in the Warner and Porum areas. He loved to attend sporting events at Warner High School and Connors State College, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs with daughter Nancy and also loved watching OSU Cowboys (even when they lost). He attended a lot of grandchildren's sporting events. He also loved attending barrel racing events. If you wanted him during the days for the last 10 years since he retired he could be found at RSM Farm Supply except at lunch which was usually spent at the Warner Senior Center.
Carl is survived by his daughters Genevieve "Genny" Perkins of Hampton, Iowa; Nancy Barnes of Coweta, Oklahoma; Raymond (Sharah) Simeroth of Porum, Oklahoma; Della (Dallas) Hendrickson of Whitefield, Oklahoma; and Judy (Holly Swinney) Simeroth of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, 9 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Frances Marrell of Mesquite, Texas and a brother James (Sue) Simeroth of Albany, Oregon; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by wife Katie, parents Andrew and Laura, sisters Helen Rowland, Louise Yambor, and Evelyn Simeroth; and brothers John, Raymond, Leonard, Perry, Clyde, and Gene Simeroth; and a son-in-law, John Perkins. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10th from 10 am until 4 pm at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home in Muskogee and from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Webbers Falls. Rosary will follow.
Final Viewing will be held on Friday, April 11th at 9:30 am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Event Hall in Muskogee. Burial to follow in Bennett Cemetery in Warner. All Services will be officiated by Father Jeff Polasek of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Webber Falls.
