Alan's support of and involvement in the North Carolina Textile Foundation nurtured not only the Foundation's growth but allowed those of us around him to be inspired by his dedication, determination and business acumen.

Mr Dickson and my father were fraternity brothers at NC State and remained friends thru the years. I only met him a few times but he was such a nice man. I do recall he would would refer to us kids as "chaps". He was great man and his passing is huge loss for the State of North Carolina. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I will be forever indebted to Mr Dickson and the Messers Morehead for the opportunity to have a free education (undergraduate and medical) at the premier state university in the country (and it just happens to be in my home state). Thank you, Mr Dickson!

The U.S. National Whitewater Center was just a dream until Alan Dickson invested his wisdom and tenacity to turn the idea into reality. Alan led our organization with an unwavering faith that we could make the improbable possible. We have lost a great leader and friend. Alan G. Dexter (Vice Chair, U.S. National Whitewater Center)

My heart is saddened with the loss of Alan. He was one of the finest men I have ever known and was always so very kind to me at the Dickson Cottage in Linville. His presence will surely be missed.

It is with a heavy heart that I read about Alan. I worked with him through Harris Teeter for 28 years and learned a great deal from him and had such respect for him and his leadership.
My husband, David, and I are out of town and will be unable to attend the service, but we extend our sincere condolences to all the family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this pillar of the state of North Carolina. I was blessed to be a Morehead Scholar during Mr. Dickson's tenure on the board. Between Mr. Dickson and Mebane Pritchett, the scholars saw modeled before us the lives we should lead . God bless the family in this time of loss and God bless the life and memory of this great man.
