STANLEY GITLOW Obituary

GITLOW--Stanley, E., MD,

FACP, DFASAM -- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Dr. Stanley Gitlow. For five decades, Dr. Gitlow served as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai while simultaneously operating a private practice in New York City before retiring to Naples, Florida. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Gitlow specialized in hypertension, internal medicine, and the budding field of addiction sciences. He published more than 150 research papers, served as a member of the United States Public Health Service, and co- founded the New York City Medical Society on Alcoholism, which eventually became the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Gitlow received his medical degree from the College of Medicine at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He completed postdoctoral training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, subsequently joining Mount Sinai as voluntary faculty. Dr. Gitlow enriched the lives of patients, colleagues, and friends. We send our deepest condolences to his family. Contributions in Dr. Gitlow's name may be given to the American Society of Addiction Medicine or the Ulrich and Ruth Frank Foundation for International Health. Kenneth L. Davis, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, Mount Sinai Health System

Dear Lynn,
Stan was a superb human being and successful in every sense. His kindness, smile and sense of humor will continue to inspire all who knew him. His unceasingly steadfast love for you will inspire: from watching you two at the tennis courts to sharing a dinner table at Naples social clubs. Stay strong and beautiful and keep your portrait prominent at home -- Stan loved it. Anne and Ted Keller, Naples, Florida
