David (Dave) Harris Erdman - Oct 11, 1931 - Jan 27, 2019
Dave joined eternal life with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 27, 2019 in the presence of his loving family.
He began his earthly life in Marinette, Wisconsin where he and his 11 brothers and sisters were born to Michael and Esther Erdman. As a young man, Dave imitated his brother in service to his country by joining the Navy in 1951. The thought of traveling to faraway places excited him. He served on the USS Pittsburgh during the Korean Conflict.
On November 19, 1960, Dave married Nancy Louise Elmer and together they had three daughters LeAnne, Louise and Michele. Nancy passed away in 1976. Dave and his daughters moved to Humble, Texas in 1978 for a new beginning. Dave was invited by friends to a family Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Lucy Defoor Massey who had 13 children by her late husband, Robert S. Massey. That was the beginning of the loving relationship between Dave and Lucy. They were joined in marriage on February 18, 1989, and became a blended family of 16 children. They both accepted and loved the others' children and their extended families as their own. Dave loved hunting, fishing and farm life. Together they loved family gatherings, gardening and raising farm animals. Dave obviously had a great sense of humor which he showed by marrying into such a large family. He always had laughter in his home even when he became very ill. He loved to tease and joke about almost everything. He loved life and his entire family and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He was such an honorable man.
Dave leaves behind his beloved wife of 30 years, Lucy Massey Erdman; his biological daughters and their families, LeAnne and David Horn, granddaughter Micayla Horn; Louise and Frank Devine, granddaughter Stephanie; and Michele and Larry Kolster, grandson Ryan Young. Dave's step-children includes Eva and Eddie Thatcher, Charles Massey, John and Linda Massey, Wayne Massey (deceased), Lanora and James Newman, Roy Massey, Nancy and Ricky Cranney, Patricia and Elton Ward, Gail and Chris Porter, Wanda and Andy Andrews, Raymond Massey, Donna and Timothy Walker, Sam Massey and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons Ryan Young, Johnathan Fisk, Dale Newman, Ricky Cranney III, Chris Cranney, Travis Massey and Roy Massey Jr. Honorary pallbearers include all of Dave's sons and sons-in-law.
His family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Heritage Hospice and daughter, Lanora Newman for the continuous care and support for Dave and Lucy during his illness. Everyone who met Dave was blessed by his genuine larger than life personality. He touched every soul he met with his sincerity, selflessness and caring. Dave's smile, laughter and sense of humor will be missed by so many. God has blessed us so much by Dave being in our lives. He will be missed dearly.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 1st from 6-8pm at McNutt Funeral Home located at 1703 Porter Rd, Conroe, TX 77301. Funeral services will also be at McNutt Funeral Home on Saturday, February 2nd at 10am with burial following at Scott Ridge Cemetery, Willis, TX.
