Helen Herbst, age 93, passed away on January 19, 2018 in Kingwood, Texas. Helen was born on August 8, 1924 in Mount Vernon, NY to Herman and Olga Gertz. It was in Mount Vernon that she met her future husband Karl Herbst. They were married on May 23, 1947. They lived and raised their family in Mount Vernon and later Port Chester NY. In 1991 they retired to their favorite beach in Calabash, NC. They enjoyed the sun and the sand there through 2001 when they moved to Kingwood to be closer to family.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Karl, her parents and her brother and sister-in -law William and Giola Gertz.She is also survived by her sons Douglas (Celie) and Glenn (Kari) and her grandchildren Sara Bading (Ryan), Leslie Herbst, James Herbst (Trisha), Jonathan Herbst (Kate) and Peter Herbst (Kayla), great-grandchildren Reese, Brynn, Tristyn, Rayden, Graham, Riley and Ripley, nieces Giola Weimar and Darlene Judson (Tom) nephew Bill, their families and godchild Dorothy Ciminelli (Richard).
Helen leaves many family and friends that she remained close to her entire life including her friend of 93 years Richard Daze, the Herbst families in New York and Connecticut and "family" in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Kingwood.
A memorial service of Helen's life will be held at Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Rd, Kingwood 77339 on saturday March, 10th at 10am. Should you chose to remember Helen with a tribute, please consider a donation to MD ANDERSON Cancer Center in Houston in Helen and Karl's name.
