Nan and I taught at WWJH in Dayton for a few years. She moved to Tarkington Middle School, and it wasn't long before I found myself teaching at Tarkington High School. She and I worked closely together as English department heads. There have been a couple of times I tried to get Nan to take the test to be certified to teach high school, but I was never successful. Nan knew she was where God meant for her to be. She loved her students, and she loved teaching. Her positive attitude, smile, and laugh were contagious! The love she had for her family could not be measured. I would be surprised to find out that Nan ever had lunch or dinner with her friends without bringing home a plate for Vernon! It was a well known fact that he was the love of her life. From what I hear, that was a match made in heaven! Going back to school this year won't be the same. I believe both of us would be entering our 34th year of teaching. Nan won't be there to receive my emails or texts, but I do know she will hear me. She won't be at our combined English department meetings in person, but I know her spirit will be there. Tarkington Middle School will miss her leadership, but I know she will find a way to get her message through. Her friends will just plain miss her, but I know she will live on in our hearts forever.
With much love and respect,
