Ramie Lee (Bedwell) Simmons, 94, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2019. She was born on December 1st, 1924, at home in Fruithurst, Alabama to Willey Leroy Bedwell and Leona Della (Laminack) Bedwell. Ramie graduated from Irwin County High School in Ocilla, Georgia in 1942 and moved to Atlanta where she attended Southern Business University. She was employed for many years as a legal secretary by the law firm Lokey and Bowden. She married Edgar Hamlett (Ham) Simmons in 1955 and they moved to Pittsfield, MA and Rome, Georgia where they started their family. In Rome, she took up her lifetime hobbies of bridge, golf and volunteering which she continued through moves to Simsbury CT and finally Kingwood TX in 1978.
Ramie was known for her fabulous southern cooking, hospitality and her kind and loving heart. She had a great sense of style, a love of color and was always ready for a laugh. She was active in many bridge and golf groups, water aerobics and she loved to read. She will be remembered for her big smile and love of family and friends. Her faith in God was certain and unwavering.
Ramie is survived by her 3 children, Mark Simmons (granddaughter Ashley and great granddaughters Erikka and Allison), Brenda Simmons (wife Angie Swanagon) and Bridget Schulten (husband Rob and grandchildren Sam and Maggie) and niece Jo Miles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Johnnie Bedwell Roberts, her brother Lloyd Bedwell and her husband Ham.
