Richard Martin Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Allen Martin announces his passing on Monday, March 22, 2021 at the age of 64.

Richard was born in Rome, New York in 1957 and later joined the United States Air Force as a medic in 1975, quickly rising to the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Lubbock, Texas at Reese Air Force Base where he met the love of his life and best friend, Sharon Cox while she was attending Texas Tech University. They secretly eloped in 1976 and later welcomed a daughter, Misty, in 1980, followed by another daughter, Tiffany, in 1985.

Richard was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, as well as an active member of the Texas State Teachers Association and National Education Association serving in various positions for over the last 15 years. Richard worked for Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District for more than 33 years and was also, at one point, a CyFair Volunteer Fire Fighter and Paramedic. He was a man of many passions which included fishing, hunting, boating, traveling, scuba diving, carpentry, music, painting, ministry, and later in life, his grandchildren.

He will be missed by his wife of 45 years, Sharon; children, Misty, Tiffany (Scott); grandchildren, Christian, Madison, Cayden, Pryce, Callum, Sienna, Summer; siblings, Michael (Anona), Denise (Daniel); sister/brother-in-law, Anita, Jerry; nephews/nieces, Karen (Barry), Kevin, Michael Brandon, Rose; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Laurel; grandparents, Alfred and Daisy Haughn; brother-in-law, Johnny; and niece, Kim.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 6:00 PM at The Pattison House, 3602 North Street, Pattison, TX 77466. A reception will immediately follow. Memorial donations in his honor can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

I went to High School with Sharon Cox Martin here in Houston. We have remained friends forever. I met Richard when I had gone to visit Sharon in Lubbock and we all became very good friends. I am the reason why thy got married, rather funny story. They were the perfect couple, just made for each other. Richard was her champion, best friend and husband. He was an excellent husband, father and grandfather. Very proud of his family. He will be sorely missed, but he lives in our hearts. We know where he is, in heaven. I know that my husband and Richard are compairing Sharon's and being our prayer warriors. Love you!!!!!

My grandpa was such a good man to everyone. He was kind and caring and would give the shirt off his back for his family and friends. I’m going to miss traveling with him to Arkansas, because me and him loved to dig for diamonds together. We never found any, but we cherished the time. He will never be forgotten. Love you forever and always.
