Patrick Coyle Obituary

Patrick William Coyle
May 25, 1942 - September 20, 2025
Patrick died peacefully in his home from COPD complications after a family dinner surrounded by his sister Wendy, brother William, and niece, Juliet. A dedicated colleague, neighbor, friend, beloved Uncle to Gyda, Juliet, Jacqueline, Nathanial, William and Granduncle to Richard, Signe and Zora, he will be missed by many who enjoyed his wit, charm and interesting company. His wife Barbara preceded him in death years prior.
Born in Sacramento, he and his two siblings grew up in the Cascade Mountains of Northern California and attended Central Valley High School. A veteran of the U.S Army, he served in Germany. Patrick studied Political Science at San Francisco State University and finished his law degree from the University of San Francisco. A member of the California Bar Association, he practiced law in San Francisco and Santa Rosa. As a trial lawyer, two of his successful landmark cases affect many people today; securing a re-designed safety gas cap on Honda motorcycles that spread to the industry and the legalization of "Texas Hold-em" in California.
Along with being a pilot and boat owner, Patrick was a ham radio operator, KG6JSL, past president of the Sonoma County Amateurs' Club, a Model A expert and member of the Sonoma A's Model A Club. He won multiple championships in the California Model A Hillclimb in his 1929 Bullet Back Speedster.
Patrick enjoyed traveling throughout America and the world and his many destinations included Iran, Turkey, Europe, Kenya, Antarctica, Alaska, Hawaii. His last trip, three weeks before his death, was to Yellowstone National Park with his dear friend Emma. The world is better for his being here and he will be missed by all.

Pat was a long-time amateur radio operator. He was a Sonoma County Radio Amateurs member, volunteer, legal advisor, friend. He kept the "Toaster," an old RV that the club used for pubic service events and always had an update on what it needed and how to keep it safe and operating.

Pat was licensed at the General level.

In the ham radio world, a deceased amateur is a "silent key." ("Key" being the telegraph key the sends out Morse code dits and dahs.

So sorry to learn that KGJSL has become a silent key.
