October 29, 1950 - June 17, 2014
Christopher Nielsen Heard of Sacramento, California, a successful attorney, dedicated psychologist, beloved father and grandfather passed away on June 17th, 2014. Chris was born to the late Lawrence Nielsen Heard and the late Betty Ann Heard on October 29, 1950 at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco, CA. He was the oldest son and second child for the couple. In 1969, Chris married Melody Benevento and had his first daughter, Felicia. While working and raising a family, Chris continued his education at the University of San Francisco, from which he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1974 with degrees in Philosophy and Theology. He went on to further his education at Santa Clara University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor in 1978. Chris began his career in the law in the Santa Clara district attorney's office where he enjoyed an unprecedented record of successes. He remained a dedicated public servant throughout his career, always fighting for the underdog and ensuring that justice was served. In July of 1981, Chris and Melody welcomed their second daughter, Briana. He went on to be a gubernatorial appointee during the Deukmejian administration as well as serving in other distinguished capacities within the California State government. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Bob Dylan wrote "that he not busy being born is busy dying". My old friend was certainly busy being born. What a shame.

Together and separately we loved and nurtured our remarkable daughters Felicia and Briana. Together and separately we loved and enjoyed our spirited grandsons, Ryan, James and Griffin and we loved and admired our son in law Scott. Chris had a positive and profound influence on our girls and for that I am forever grateful. I want to thank Chris for being the best father and grandfather he could be.

Chris was a man of integrity and intellect. He truly was a champion of the underdog, the forgotten, and the lost. We are all poorer without him in our lives and in our community. Rest in peace my friend. We will not forget you.

Christopher - How I have and will miss you! From your first days in my philosophy class more than forty years ago, it was evident from your talents and passion that you were destined for a special life of service. Now you have lived it. First in the law, then in psychology. In each case you sought service not power. Eye has not seen or ear heard... Good bye for now.

Georgia and I knew Chris & Kris as a wonderful couple together. We were as shocked as anyone that he is no longer with us. The vacant spot he leaves will be hard to forget, if ever. We will not even try!

I met Chris last year when he and my cousin Kristine came up to Brookings for our family reunion. We only got to spend a couple of days with him, but it was a pleasure getting to know him. They were a lovely couple. Hi will be greatly missed.

The best of friends, a man amongst boys, courageous advocate and unflinching expert, a father who loved his children unconditionally...Christopher has set the ethical and intellectual bar quite high for the rest of us. His easy laugh will be missed forever.

I knew Chris through a friend and would see him at dinner occasionally and during Christmas, we were at Yellowstone for vacation camping also. I'm sorry for your loss. Please let us know when and where the service is, thank you.

Chris leased office space from me for a long time. I still can't believe this happened and remember speaking with him about life a couple of days before this happened. He will be truly missed by us all at Business Central! Tom Tenge

He is personally responsible for tremendously improving the lives of at least 20 clients of mine over the last 15 years, making the world a much better place. We are born but to aid one another, that is really all there is to it. Chris exemplified that. Not only missed, but remembered for the rest of our lives.
