We have such wonderful memories of David- he and Kellie always welcomed us to their home whenever we were able to visit from out of state. We were always so impressed by David's energy, his warmth, the obvious love he and Kellie and their children shared, his love of his siblings and their families- a very special person who has left us too soon but who has left a truly indelible mark on so many.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and advisor David - we always enjoyed his straight talk and placing life's stresses in the context of personal and family advancement - and embracing the constant conflict with a smile! We miss you David! C&J

Murph was the best, such a non pretentious dude. I wouldn't see Dave for years and when I did his greeting "what's up Breeze" was like stepping back in time. He was a senior when I was a freshman, but Murph always made me feel like one of the boys. When I graduated college, I moved to Richmond, and Murph, John Flemming, and I threw a house party at Murph's crib. Keg beer, crankin the tunes, and wrapping things up well past 2am....like we used too. I didn't know Murphy before college but there are certain people in life you meet and no matter how much time goes by you think you saw them yesterday......Murph was that guy. It saddens me that I want see my QB, brother, and friend when I go back to the Burg, but I do know that I will see him soon. And when I do, I'll hear, "whats up Breeze" and know without a doubt who it is......Murph. See ya in heaven Cuz.

I caught my first pass for a touchdown in 6th grade from David, in play Oliver Twist and played basketball with him. He was a larger then life gentleman to treated everyone he met with dignity and respect, even-though he was the star QB. We will greatly miss. God Bless David. We will see you again.

David was a dear friend throughout our years at St Bridget´s. He was funny and smart and such a great athlete I enjoyed cheering for on the field and court.
May all of the Murphy´s find peace in the life and legacy of David. Rest In Peace friend.

To the Murphy family - I´m so sorry to hear of Dave´s passing- we met in the fall of 1980 as teammates and then Kappa Sigma brothers and although I haven´t been to Williamsburg often when I ran into Murph - it was like we were never apart - he always had my back as a teammate- I still share stories of his leadership on the football field - even in tense times he could relax and encourage us - it was truly his gift - I will miss him - and my memories of Murph will stay with me - the world could use a few more like him.

David, my friend, you will be missed. It was always a pleasure to catch-up and talk UVA and William Mary football. You never lacked for a perspective :).
You really did make the most of your time here on earth, rest easy. There no longer is a fight with cancer, rest easy.
For the Murphy family, please know that you are in my prayers.
Peace be with you!

Growing up, I have the best memories of "Murph" when he visited Ohio. He brought joy and laughter and was a dear friend to my Uncle Doug and my dad, John. Thank you for sharing him with us. He is greatly missed.
