Daniel Young Obituary
Services will take place on Monday, January 30 at 1:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 P.M. All attendees are encouraged to dress in casual attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation to Iowa River Hospice and the Iowa City Hope Lodge. Born February 9, 1952 in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of LeRoy and Ruth Ann (Hauser) Young. After graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1970, he attended classes at Marshalltown Community College. Dan met the love of his life, Karen Davis, and the couple was united in marriage on March 19, 1972. They made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their three children.
Dan was extremely hardworking, often gone from sun up to sun down. His strong work ethic and the importance of family meal time was deeply instilled in his children. Dan dedicated 46 years to concrete Ready-mix construction and retired in 2018. He was a man of few words, but found joy in writing his family beautiful poetry, expressing what they meant to him. After attending a monthly get-together with former classmates, they discovered a hidden talent: an uncanny ability to sing karaoke and mimic the artist's voice. The nickname "Willy" began after he rolled up his signature hanky and sang just like Willy Nelson. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 50 years, Karen; his three children: Christopher (Linda) Young of Huxley, IA, Kimberly Young (Curt Craun) of Marshalltown, IA and Justin (Amanda) Young of Melbourne, IA; and five grandchildren: Tanner, Andrea, Bryce, Meghan and Kaitlyn.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Ruth Ann and his siblings: Jim Young, Tom Young and Janie Ferguson.
