Colonel Rubert Q. Haight Jr., (Bob) a retired United States Army veteran and a long-time resident of Lakemoor, IL passed away in the comfort of his home on July 26, 2023, at the age of 81. He is preceded in death by his mother Helene Haight (Ericksen), his father Rubert Q. Haight, Sr. and his brother Bryan Haight (Robin).
He is survived by his loving wife Jennifer Haight and his brother Kevin Haight (Linda), his children Heather Lavey (Mick), Trey Kernaghan, Quinton Haight (LeAndra), Jason Haight (Theresa), Christopher Larsen (Jessica), and Beth Edgren (Dave). He is also survived by his adored grandchildren Kai Jenia, Michael Jenia, Samantha Jenia, Alley Kernaghan, Finley Haight, Rori Haight, Kai Haight, Evan Haight, Maren Larsen, Kohin Larsen, Lachlan Larsen, Maxwell Hall, Miles Hall, and Aubrey Edgren. The joy of Bob was his enormous love for all he met, whether it was a new or old friend. He laughed hard and smiled proudly. His pride was endless when it came to his family and friends, making sure they knew how much he loved them.
In 1959, Bob received his diploma from Highland Park High School in Highland Park, IL. He then went on to attend college in both Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, OK, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in 1964 and Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL, where he earned a master's degree in 1977.
Bob had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army serving heroically and retiring in 1992 as a Colonel after 28 years of service which included overseas tours in Vietnam (twice), Thailand, Germany, and various stateside locations. A graduate of the Army War College, he served in the Military Police Corps and as a Comptroller. Notable assignments included duty as a Platoon Leader with the 1st Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam, Physical Security Inspector for the Defense Nuclear Agency at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM, the U.S. Army Europe Vehicle Registrar in Heidelberg, Germany, Executive Officer to the Department of the Army Comptroller at the Pentagon, and Director of Resource Management for U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command at Great Lakes Naval Base, IL. His military decorations included the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star Medal.
Visitation will be held at the Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL on Monday, July 31, 2023, from 11- 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm.
