William G. "Bill" Mayer, 66, of Laurens, SC, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at his home.
Born August 5, 1957, in Danvers, MA, he was a son of the late Baron Pierson and Kathleen Duncan Mayer. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, and proudly served as a Submariner on the USS Batfish. Bill earned his Law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law and went on to establish his own successful law firm in Laurens, where he practiced for 25 years. He was a respected member of the Laurens County Bar Association.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing the bass guitar. He was a member of several community organizations including the American Legion Post 25, Rossie Walker Masonic Lodge, and the Laurens VFW.
Bill is survived by his son, Caleb Mayer of Laurens; his stepchildren, Charlie Knight and Ginny Knight, both of SC; his six grandchildren; his brother, Fred Mayer (Judy) of LA; his sisters, Marion "Marty" Mayer of Jacksonville, FL, and Nancy Nixon of Nashville, NC; and many cherished friends.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen Roberson and Emily Ashburn.
A Memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Laurens with Rev. Enoch Wilson and Mr. Chace Campbell officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 25, c/o Kevin Farnsworth, PO Box 1806, Laurens, SC 29360.
Gray Funeral Home of Laurens is assisting the Mayer family with services.
