Allen Baldwin, 70, of Kingwood, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016. He was born on January 1, 1946, the son of John and Maidie (Watson) Baldwin in Goose Creek, Texas which is now known as Baytown. Allen graduated from Louisiana State University in 1969 with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing. After graduation, he went into the United States Air Force. During his 20 years of service, Allen served as a pilot, instructor pilot, reconnaissance operations officer, national/international military instructor, Wing Chief and Director of Safety. In addition, he earned his Master's degree in Counseling and Human Development while stationed in Alabama. Allen was a true force of nature during his service and in his community. His performance reviews are filled with comments such as: "the total team player," "superb officer, "exemplary leadership," "never flustered," inspires others." Allen retired as Lieutenant Colonel, Command Pilot in 1989. His passions for flying and aviation safety led to a second career at Continental Airlines where he worked closely with the FAA and NTSB. During and after his Continental days, Allen was invited to speak extensively on the subject of aviation safety both in the United States and abroad. Although Allen was passionate about his job, he was at the very heart a family man. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren took precedence over all else. In 2014, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Despite his illness, Allen never veered from his true nature. He remained gentle, kind, and cooperative throughout his journey through Alzheimer's—a true testament to his sweet, loving spirit. He was quick with "I love you's" and always sincere. Allen never lost his impeccable Southern good manners. His smiles and "thank you's" never wavered. He is survived by his daughters: Amy Baldwin Carrara and Lisa Baldwin; his sister Maidie Phillips; grandsons Michael, Alex and Christopher Carrara; niece Maidie B. Yale and nephews Rob and Scott Phillips. Allen was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Hopson Baldwin and son Michael Baldwin. Allen's memorial service will be at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, Texas 77339.
