Born on February 15, 1919, to Elizabeth and George McKeever of Columbus, Ohio, Libby graduated from Bexley High School and The Ohio State University, where she majored in voice and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1940, Mrs. Ross married Richard M. Ross, President of Ross Laboratories, which grew out of the family business M&R Dietetic Laboratories. Mr. Ross passed away on December 5, 1993. Ross Heart Hospital at The Ohio State University, where she served as an Honorary Board member. Additionally, she provided the funds for restoring the building that houses the Ohio Wesleyan Art Museum. The Elizabeth Ross Nursing Fellowship at The Ohio State University was established by her. My love and condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Ross. I will forever be grateful for her visionary support that made the Ross Heart Hospital a place where people like me can try to make a positive difference in people's well being. Countless patients served at OSU and those served by our graduates working around the world live better lives thanks to Libby Ross.

The Ross family and the Richard Zollinger family were intertwined as far back as I can remember until my late twenties. Then time sped by and got us to this point. In common were Bexley,North Parkview, the Columbus Country Club, Lake Erie, Columbus School for Girls and the Columbus Academy.
But in my late twenties and all through my thirties there was my personal friendship with Libby Ross. She was a wonderful influence over my life during those years. She got me involved at the Columbus Museum of Art during the Steve Rosen, Bud Bishop and Wayne King Era. I joined Beau Arts and Women's Board because of Libby. I traveled all over the United States for over a decade for the Designer Craftsman Shop and Decorators Showhouse. I saw her frequently. I remember her as a beautiful, sophisticated, intelligent, accomplished and kind lady.
If the world was full of people like Libby Ross it would be a heavenly place. She leaves quite a void. We loved her.

I came to know Libby during my tenure as Columbus Culture Arts Coordinator. She graciously agreed to serve on a commission holding open forums to determine what the city's needs and strengths were regarding the arts, humanities, built environment, entertainment, education and historic preservation. Also, during this period, Charles Kleibacker moved here, bringing with him many of his creations. I asked Libby if she could help him become acclimated and she immediately agreed saying, I'll put Sally on it. Thus began his fruitful and enduring partnership with the Columbus Museum of Art. How ironic that Sunday's reception for Libby comes just as the annual Kleibacker Film Festival ends.

These are just two examples of the many, many contributions Libby made to our community, contributions that we will benefit from for many years to come. What an outstanding legacy this great lady leaves.

Dear Alex, Dick, Marcia and Sally and families,
I just received notification of Libby's passing from a friend of mine who works for the University. I was hoping to be able to attend the memorial but am still up at the lake and committed to be here while my son finishes his construction work, until the end of the month. I would love to have seen all of you! Your mom was a mom to me albeit for only a brief time but the impact was life-lasting. People like Genevieve Kroeger and Libby Ross, who I consider to be two of God's best handiwork , should live forever and saying goodbye is a very difficult task. I tried to reach Libby at different times to no avail. But, I would like to think that she knew how much I respected her and valued her as a beautiful Godly soul. God truly blessed you with an incredible mother, above all else that she was to her communities and friends. My heart shares your grief and I am asking God to send the peace that passes all understanding to each and every one of you.
Blessings and love, Beth Kroeger Costello
If you get a chance, when things settle down, I would love to hear more about Libby and how she spent her last years in Vero Beach and an update on all of you, too.

To the family of dear Mrs Ross,
It was such a pleasure to know your mom if only for a short time and to know the people she came to touch while at Oak Harbor. May the memories you all have of her be cherished. God certainly used her while here on earth.
My deepest sympathy,

Mrs. Ross was the most elegant and sophisticated woman I knew. She was a picture of dignity and grace and her loss is that of the entire community.

The obituary records so many generous, talented and personal giving to people, the arts and and many civic organizations, but how I remember and admire her is her loving nature to her children and their friends. She was a wonderful mother and to the many friends of Sally. Many of Sally Ross's CSG classmates will miss Mrs. Ross and mourn with Sally and feel .tenderness and sadness for Sally. I'm not sure but Mrs. Ross umay be the last mother to survive the class of 1959. As the years have progressed since 1959, our class of 21 has grown closer and at times providing a motherly friendship to our classmates, especially since our mothers are no longer here. Mrs. Ross was important to us whil we were students and we will always be grateful to her. Merry Lee Obetz Neil

I met Elizabeth M. Ross shortly after coming to Columbus to work on the restoration of the Southern Theatre. She was one of the major supporters of the project, which would become home to, among others, the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, of which she was a founder and the reason for this note.
I was first shown the Southern Theatre by flashlight in the early 1980s, while I was consulting on the Ohio Theatre restoration and expansion. Later that decade I helped prepare a feasibility study outlining the restoration plan and proposing potential users of the facility, among them ProMusica. In 1993 Doug Kridler invited me to move to Columbus to manage the theatre's restoration. Which leads me to the day before the Southern's reopening in 1998. I was walking through what is now the Ross Lobby and heard the opening chords of a Mozart symphony coming from the audience chamber. I walked up into the Loge and soon concluded that I had encountered the best coupling of venue and ensemble imaginable - both largely thanks to Libby Ross. I sat and listened to ProMusica for a short time before coming to the realization that I would probably never surpass what had been accomplished at the Southern Theatre, but that that was okay, because what I experienced that day was a sense of profound contentment. For all she did for her community and the countless artists and patrons whose lives she she affected, I hope that Libby went to her rest experiencing the same.

I will always remember a gracious beautiful woman who was an inspiration of giving and quietly working for the good of her community to the benefit of there. She was an inspiration to me growing up. Her family, children and grandchildren are an example of her love and grounded values.
Ironically I now live in Tucson, AZ. At a lovely old resort and restaurant here among some historic pictures there is one of the Ross family when their daughter Sally, my friend since childhood, was probably about 10 years old. They have recently gone through a major redecorating and I was pleased to see the Ross' are still there. I love stopping in to see the reminder of a beautiful and remarkable family every time I am there. It is incredible to think how many lives she touched in such a quiet and faithful way. I am so grateful to have known her. May she be reunited with her beloved husband and know eternal peace. Barby Park Goldschmid

I had the opportunity to work with Libby a number of years ago. She amazed me with her energy, devotion to her health, love of family and most of all to God. She quoted me once that she believed the verse to whom much has been given, much is expected. She lived that with her whole being. She welcomed me to her Michigan summer home and put me at complete ease. Libby demonstrated grace and compassion her entire life. Thank you for leading by example as a true servant of God.

Every day when I walk into work, I see Libby's face greet me. It is her picture on the wall and her family's gift of The Ross Heart Hospital that has made an amazing hospital in Columbus. I was fortunate to personally know her. It is really hard to describe her but to me, she was a pillar of strength in our community. She was compassionate, philanthropic but strong and sensible and forthright. Her work and gifts to this community have far reaching effects and her work continues, even in her absence. Nonetheless, this is huge loss for our city. I will miss her and miss getting her advice and guidance. My condolences to her family. But I hope you take comfort in how much effect she had on our world in the time she was here.

As the assistant director of the Richard M. Ross Art Museum at Ohio Wesleyan University, it has been such a privilege and pleasure to work with Libby to create our space. A lovely and gracious lady, I will remember how kind and generous she was with her time, talents and treasure. She will always be present in the spirit of all we do at the Ross.
