Diane Marie Getz (Balcar), 73, of Grove City, Ohio, born in Wheeling, West Virginia passed away November 18, 2018. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Getz, parents Walter and Eva (Yoder) Balcar, sister Susan Bye, nephew Matthew Wilcox. Diane is survived by sons, Robert (Michelle) Getz, Jr. Michael Getz; sisters, Mary Ann (Lance) Hastings, Phyllis (Jim) Wilcox, Linda Shippy, Nancy (Jim) Sharfeld; brother, Walter (Debra) Balcar; three grandchildren, Tyler, Robert, Nicholas; beloved friends, neighbors, and hundreds of students. Diane was a wonderful teacher and life-long learner. She received a bachelor of science in elementary education from The Ohio State University in 1972 and was credentialed in 6-9th year old children by the American Montessori Society in 1988. Her over thirty-five year teaching career consisted of a wide range of experiences in helping children succeed including: South-Western City Schools, Grove City, OH (1972-80 ); St. Joseph Montessori School, Columbus, OH (1986-2006 ); Catholic Diocese of Columbus, Columbus, OH, Central Ohio Montessori Education Training, Teacher Training Program (2006); Central College Christian Academy, (2006-2009). She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Delta Theta, Sorority, lifetime member of the American Montessori Society, member of National Catholic Education Society, and was honored by "Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America". She loved to read, bargain-hunt, garden, and she relished being with her family and friends. A special thank you to the staff at the OSU NCCU Unit and the Kobacker House for their loving care. A gathering of friends and family will be on Thursday, November 29, from 5-7pm at Newcomer, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11am at OLPH, 3730 Broadway, Grove City, OH, followed by a bereavement dinner at the church from 12-1:30pm. Inurnment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Diane's name to The Make It Fit Foundation, 7385 N State Route 3, Suite 50, Westerville, OH, 43082. www.makeitfit.org

Diane was a great teacher. She went beyond expectations in caring for her students. We have many fond memories of our time spent with her. Our deepest condolences to her family.
