Wilmington, North Carolina - Larry Gene Sanderford, 80, of Wilmington, North Carolina, peacefully passed away at home on July 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina on November 18, 1944, Larry was the son of the late Aubrey and Julia Ray Sanderford.

Larry graduated from Garner High School in Garner, NC in 1980, and later received a Civil Engineering Technology degree from WW Holden Technical Institute in Raleigh, NC. He was in the United States Marine Corps for four years, serving in the Philippines, Thailand, Puerto Rico, and spent 18 months in Vietnam in ground demolition.

In 1980, Larry married the love of his life, Sherry Griffin in Raleigh, NC. They made their home in Wilmington, NC where Larry owned and operated Southern Asphalt Company. After thirty-three years, Larry sold his very successful business and retired in March of 2022.

Larry was a dedicated husband and father and had an exceptional work ethic. He enjoyed vacationing with his wife Sherry in tropical places all over the Caribbean and Honduras, and his favorite was Atlantis on Paradise Island in Nassau. Larry also loved the beach and boating, and was passionate about gardening and maintaining an immaculate lawn.

I was blessed and fortunate to reside with Larry as his roommate for 6 years in Raleigh (The Lakes/Montecito). While many people have come and gone without significant influence, Larry was someone whose presence had a noticeable impact on my life. The epitome of a friendship forged by great memories of Larry from the Marine Corps, W.W. Holding/Wake Tech, Winn-Dixie, 1967 Corvette, PJC´s nightclub, striping parking lots, boating, water skiing, immaculately shined shoes, starched shirts, sharply creased trousers, and sunglasses. Semper Fi my friend.
