Agnes Kavanaugh Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Agnes Marie Wohlleb Kavanaugh on November 21st, 2025, the most loving, caring, and selfless woman we have ever known. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose grace, compassion, and unwavering faith touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Theresa Wohlleb, her 11 siblings and their spouses, and her beloved dog, Bridget.
She leaves behind her children: Owen (Laurie), Paul, Phillip (Stella), Michael (Valerie), Theresa (Mike), and Kathy (Dale); her grandchildren: Donna, Phillip Jr., Michael Paul, Jackie, Beth, Michael, Terence, Joe, Alex, Patti, Dustin, Kenny, Cassie, Katie, Logan, Sara, and Madi; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Born on December 17th, 1931, at St. Mary Elizabeth Hospital in downtown Louisville. She grew up working in her family's bakery, Wohlleb's Bakery, on 36th and Broadway, alongside her 11 siblings, then later worked at Our Lady of Peace as a mental health worker for 25 years where she retired from in 1994.
As a mother, she poured out her love unconditionally, nurturing her children with kindness and a wisdom that only a mother like her could give. Her love for her children knew no bounds, and she always put their needs above her own.
To her grandchildren, she was "Grandma," the woman whose love and wisdom shaped their lives. Her home was a place of comfort, where stories were shared, cards and board games were played, lessons were learned, and unconditional love was always present. The sparkle in her eyes when she spoke of her grandchildren was a testament to how much they meant to her. She loved fiercely, and her devotion to her family was a testament to the kind of woman she was.
Agnes was more than just a mother and grandmother; she was a friend to everyone she met. She cherished the special community of friends she gathered around the card table, those she spent countless joyful hours with playing cards, bingo, and bunco. Their laughter, stories, and shared traditions were among the great delights of her life. Her heart was always open, her arms always ready to embrace, and her home always welcoming. Whether it was a neighbor in need or a friend going through a tough time, she was always the first to offer a helping hand or a listening ear. Her life was a living prayer, a constant reflection of the Lord's love in every gesture, word, and action.
Agnes has been a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church for more than 70 years. Her devotion to her faith and her parish was evident throughout her life.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that Agnes is now at peace in the arms of our Lord. She is reunited with those who have gone before her and were ready for her in heaven at the gates with open arms. She is now in a place of eternal rest. Her love will continue to guide us, and her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.
We will miss her beyond words, every laugh, card game, and every story now held deep within our hearts, but we find peace knowing that she is with the Lord, where her soul will rest in everlasting love. May her memory be eternal, and may perpetual light shine upon her.
Her visitation service will be held at Bosse Funeral Home on 1355 Ellison Ave, Louisville, KY 40204 on Wednesday, November 26th, 2025 at 4pm-8pm EST.
Her funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3926 Poplar Level Rd, Louisville, KY, 40213 on Friday; November 28th, 2025, 10am EST. With burial immediately following the mass at St. Michael Cemetery.
