Albert Eugene Edwards, beloved husband, father, grandfather (Alpaw)and brother passed away peacefully at his home in Louisville, KY on September 18, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on May 17, 1935, to Paul and Dorothy Edwards in Louisville, KY.
Al is 1953 graduate of DuPont Manual High School and then he spent 4 years in the United States Air Force. After his term in the service he went on to study at University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. His professional path led him to become a design engineer for International Harvester and finished his career as a contractor. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
Al was Baptized at Victory Memorial Baptist church during his youth and later became a long-time member of Southeast Christian Church.
He was an avid reader, genealogist, photographer, and woodworker. In his younger years he was also a runner of marathons, a biker and a swimmer. Al was a fan of both the UK and UL sports teams.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Edwards. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Edwards, two sons, Douglas Edwards (Carla) , Scott Edwards (Jacquelyn), a granddaughter Jessica Edwards and a grandson, Joshua Edwards. He also leaves behind his only brother Paul Edwards and a special cousin, Linda Read along with his wife’s family and nieces and nephews.
Al’s surviving family want to express their gratitude to nurse Judy and the entire team from Hosparus Health for their care and kindness in making him more comfortable in his final 8 months.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
Visitation will also be from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
