Albert Clinton Sutton JR of Monte Vista, CO, known as Bert, passed away on July 22, 2024, at the age of 86 in Covington. Born on February 2, 1938, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Bert dedicated his life to service, both in his professional career and personal endeavors.

Bert's career was marked by a profound commitment to helping others. He spent 13 years with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service before answering a higher calling as an Agricultural Missionary with the International Mission Board, where he served for 15 years in Southern Africa and Brazil. Following his missionary work, Bert continued his life of Christian service as the Director of The Boys' Ranch of the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes in Millington, TN, for 11 years.

Beyond his professional life, Bert was a passionate outdoorsman and devout Christian. His hobbies included fishing, hiking, and hunting and adventuring in the mountains. He was deeply committed to Bible study and serving the Lord, impacting many through his work as a Bible teacher and mentor.

Bert was an adventurous, wise and courageous man, admired for his hardworking and driven nature. He was a loving father and grandfather, always putting his family first. He is survived by his daughters, Anita Caradine (Johnny) of Millington and Sharon Cibulka (Jeff) of Covington; grandchildren, Ben Cibulka of Memphis, Hannah Vigus (Bryce) of Ripley, TN, Brandon Caradine of Memphis, Christen Hall (Patrick) of Lansdale, PA, and Lauren Caradine of Knoxville, TN; and great-grandchild, James Sutton Hall of Lansdale, PA. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Sutton (Sharon) of Wilmington, NC. Bert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor Virginia Sutton (Jenny); his parents, Albert Clinton Sutton Sr. and Mamie Davis Adams Sutton; his sister, Dorothy Ingle; and his son, Albert Clinton Sutton III (Clint).

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Covington Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, at 11:00 AM in the Covington Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service will follow on Friday, July 26, at 1:00 PM at Crest Lawn Funeral Home-Cremation Center and Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleums in Cookville, TN.

Covington Funeral Home is assisting the family during this difficult time. Bert's life and legacy will be remembered by all who knew him as a man of God, a devoted family man, and a committed servant to the Kingdom of God. His spirit, faith and commitment to God and prayer will continue to touch his loved ones.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Tennessee Baptist Childrens Home.
