Alexander Mathew Keller, 85, of Wyckoff (and formerly of Rutherford New Jersey), died on February 27, 2023. He was born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania to Mary and Alexander Keller. He was the husband of Vivian Thorson for 54 years; father to Meredith (Christopher Facas) Keller, Kevin Keller, and Allison Keller; and grandfather to Jillian Keller-Facas and Ryder Keller-Facas. He is predeceased by his mother, father, and brother Dennis Keller.
Alexander graduated from Rutherford High School and continued his education at Newark College of Engineering. He then served his country as part of the National Guard. Alexander went to work as an Inside Sales Engineer at ASCO (Automatic Switch Company) thereafter. He also worked for Sullair Industrial, Columbus McKinnon, Fujikin of America and retired four years ago from Arcy Manufacturing as an Outside Sales Engineer. He excelled in the Sales field because he loved to talk to everyone - whether he knew them personally or had never met them before. He had a gift of finding something in common with whomever he was talking to, whether it was while he was doing business or socializing with friends and family. Alexander was active in St. Elizabeth's Church in Wyckoff, attending Sunday Mass every weekend as well as transporting fellow parishioners to Mass each week in the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff.
Alexander was a big sports enthusiast - he has followed the Atlanta Braves (from their Boston inception to their next home in Milwaukee). The New York Rangers were his favorite hockey team - and whenever the game was on in the house, you could hear him either yelling (when they were losing) or cheering (when they were winning)! In his 50's, Alexander played Adult Softball in a 50-and-Older League and continued to ski in Vermont and Colorado (first with his children and then with his grandchildren). You could also find him at Fritz Dietl's Ice Rink in Westwood or at The Ice House in Hackensack, playing pickup hockey with men less than half his age. Fellow neighbors would always see Alexander rollerblading around the block (if he wasn't on his bike, riding alongside our Golden Retriever Pete).
Other than watching sports, Alexander was always active - whether it was mowing the lawn, fixing a window shutter, or climbing a ladder onto the roof. He also enjoyed the beaches of Spring Lake, New Jersey with his lifelong friends from Rutherford. He loved to travel, having been to almost every state in the United States.
Visitation will occur on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home located at 257 Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Alexander's favorite charity was Unicef.
