Richard Daniel Loccke, labor attorney and lifelong resident of Rutherford, beloved father, and grandfather, died at his home on June 17, 2024. He was 79 years old.
Richard was the child of Virginia Hare and Daniel Loccke. He and his brother Edward were raised in the same home where he resided for 74 years.
After graduating from Rutherford High School in 1963, Richard attended Rutgers University where he majored in Political Science and was a member of the Army ROTC before graduating in 1967. He earned his law degree from Seton Hall Law School in 1970 and briefly served in the Army as a First Lieutenant upon graduation.
Richard found his life's calling in the practice of labor law. Along with friend and fellow attorney, Manuel Correia, in 1982, started the law firm Loccke & Correia. Together their law firm built a practice representing public sector labor unions: local police and fire personnel, nursing unions, the New Jersey State Troopers, and many other areas of the public sector workforce. In addition, Richard was Co-Labor Counselor for the NJ AFL-CIO, Trustee on the NJ Police & Fire Pension Board, and an executive board member and counsel to the NJ Honor Legion.
A lover of antique cars, family history, and a good book, there were few things more precious to Richard than spending time with his grandchildren in his backyard pool.
Richard is survived by his partner, Ann Twomey, his son Richard Edward Loccke and wife Susan of Ridgewood, his daughter Christina Loccke and husband Tom Johnson of Montclair, as well as seven grandchildren, Olivia, Juliana, Andrew, Mirabelle, Claudette, Spencer and Cora.
The family will host visitation at Calhoun Mania Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8:00 PM and Thursday from 2-4:00 PM and 7-9:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the Church of St. Mary in Rutherford, New Jersey on Friday at 9:30 AM followed by a burial at George Washington Cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation, supporting research into the rare autoimmune disease affecting one of his grandchildren.
