Alice Monique (Deslandes) Charbonneau, 85, of Burlington, VT, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, at Birchwood Terrace of Burlington.
Alice was born on July 12, 1939, in Barton, VT, the beloved daughter of Rudolph Deslandes and Marie Alice (Simard) Deslandes. Raised on her family farm, Alice cherished memories of helping her brothers with daily chores and tending the cows. These early experiences fostered the strong sense of responsibility and care for others that defined her throughout her life. Alice graduated as a Salutatorian from Sacred Heart High School in Newport, VT. She found her professional calling at Rice Memorial High School in Burlington, VT, serving as the bookkeeper for over 20 years. A native French speaker, Alice also enjoyed chaperoning the European Comparative Cultures Program. On June 6, 1959, Alice married the love of her life, Rheal J. Charbonneau, who predeceased her on July 25, 2003. Together they shared a life filled with adventure, love, and travel. Alice found great happiness in painting, jewelry making, and gardening.
Alice's family meant everything to her. She is survived by her two daughters, Monique (Charbonneau) Bouchard and husband Brian Bouchard of Burlington, and Michele (Charbonneau) Warner and husband Brian Warner of Milton. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Kelsey (Warner) Gingras and husband Tim Gingras of Milton, Daniele (Warner) Jaminet and husband Zachary Jaminet of Newport, and Joseph Warner and partner Sarah Dufresne of Colchester, as well as great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Natalie Gingras, Madisyn Dufresne, and Nathan and Kallie Warner. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Reverend Roger Charbonneau, and Roland Charbonneau, along with his wife Carol (Root).
Alice was a dedicated member of the Elks Club and maintained a loyal presence at local craft fairs, where she sold handmade jewelry and passed down her love of local crafts to the next generation. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Burlington, VT, and embraced the Holy Spirit within herself and with those around her.
She was predeceased by her siblings Aline (Deslandes) Comtois and husband Arthur Comtois, Russell Deslandes, Nelson Deslandes and wife Jeanette (Girouard), and Patrick Deslandes and wife Betty Ann (Cote). She is survived by her sister-in-law Rita (Fournier) Deslandes, Russell's wife. The Charbonneau, Bouchard, and Warner families extend their deepest gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and the entire hospice team at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare for their compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church on 416 Church Road in Colchester, VT. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colchester, VT. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Alice, please visit our floral store.

Alice became a good friend to my wife Nancy and me at Birchwood Terrace. I will miss my frequent visits with Alice. Sometimes they were in French so they were short since I only know how to say hello and how are you. Alice was the spark that kept Birchwood going. She will be greatly missed.
