In Loving Memory of Dr. Allan Vincent Swasey, Jr. December 1, 1942 – January 17, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Vin Swasey, age 82, a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
Vin lived a life full of love, joy, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He was a man of integrity, warmth and humor. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kathleen Doherty Swasey, and their 3 children, Chelsea E. Swasey, Matthew A. Swasey (Stephanie Hay) and Erin C. Swasey. He is also survived by his 4 adoring grandchildren, Laela E. Huddleston, Colin M. Huddleston, Molly S. Huddleston, and Frances E. Clavijo, as well as his sister, Dorothy Brewer (Robb). Vin is preceded in death by his parents, Allan Vincent Swasey and Martha Gracy Swasey, and his sister, Patricia Swasey Jordan.
Vin was born on December 1, 1942, in Lebanon, TN. He had a lively childhood growing up in Durham, NC and Oak Ridge, TN. He and his family were passionate about athletics and outdoor activities. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School and went on to attend Duke University and (very proudly) the University of Tennessee, where he earned a Phd in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Vin spent 30 years at the Central Intelligence Agency where his career spanned roles in management consulting, training, executive education, and public affairs. His professional insights as a psychologist, talents as a manager and leader, and wisdom as a teacher, counselor, and executive coach contributed not only to the Agency's mission but also the success of countless officers who worked with him.
Vin especially enjoyed traveling with Kate and planning beach trips with his family, countless Thanksgivings in Tennessee, golfing with good buddies, and rooting for his favorite teams: Washington football, Duke basketball, and all University of Tennessee sports. Among Vin's greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren–cheering them on at all their various sports and personal endeavors and being cherished by them in return.
Family and friends are welcome to join a memorial for Vin on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Money & King in Vienna, VA, from 1-4 PM. A celebration of life will be held at a later date so all can come together in remembrance of this great man.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/ and Capital Caring Health https://www.capitalcaring.org
Vin touched countless lives, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace, our dearest Vin, Daddy, Poppy. You will be forever missed and always remembered

I am like Judy, and thought of Vin recently after looking at a Triumph TR3. I will never forget riding in the back of The Raven with Judy and Vin in front after the best job I ever had- lifeguard at the Oak Ridge Country Club pool!! Also it was amazing how Ben could pop his glasses off on one cool motion! A fantastic, funny, awesome person!

Vin was a wonderful man and neighbor. He added gentle humor and southern charm to any situation. We all benefited in our lives by knowing Vin. We will miss him.

I am very sad to learn of Vin's death. I knew him for a brief slice of time--three years when he was my boss in Public Affairs. He was a super boss, always professional yet always accessible. He remained positive even when unfortunate winds were blowing. He was also a delightful friend, supportive, kind, and funny. I'll miss him too, but will remember him always fondly.
