Ms. Althea Prodromos, daughter of the late Gustav and Virginia Prodromos, beloved elder sister of Chadwick (Marilyn), John (Debra) and Stacey Prodromos and devoted aunt to their children, passed away on June 27th peacefully in her sleep at the age of 83. A private service was held on June 29th. Althea was a graduate of Northwestern University. She was a gifted and award winning painter and attended art school for one year after her Northwestern graduation preparing for a career in art, before being asked by her father who needed her help to work at the then Howard Savings and Loan, which he had chartered, to run their internal operations. She came in 1963 and stayed as executive vice president for more than forty years. During this time she attended and graduated from John Marshall law school and passed the Illinois Bar. She was subsequently joined by her brother John who became responsible for loans and served as President. She did not desire to practice law but rather used her legal education to further her work at Howard Savings, especially in the area of legal compliance. Together she and her brother made Howard Savings and Loan, which was later rechartered as a Savings Bank, into one of the nation's most profitable savings institutions before selling it and retiring just before the crash of 2008. Althea spent many years at the bedside of her late mother Virginia caring for her after a devastating stroke. After her mother passed Althea returned to her first career love of painting and produced many notable works. She also made many children's hospital charitable donations. Althea was known by all, and especially her family, for her honesty, her warm spirit and her incredibly generous heart. She will be deeply missed.
